Heartwarming story of the week. Patients of a Portsmouth local GP queued for up to four hours this week to wish him well on his retirement. The practice of Dr Richard Hughes specially opened for two hours on a Saturday morning but had to stay open longer as patients were queuing round the block to say goodbye to their favourite doctor who 'went the extra mile' , always had time for them and inquired about their families. Dr Hughes, 60, is retiring to spend more time with his family and pursue conservation and wildlife interests.
He accepted the accolade with humility and said he'd been lucky to have had such a great career. I suspect that luck had little to do with it and more with innate goodness, and hard work.
